Volkswagen South Africa Grand Prix Awards 2014

Success Breeds Success – Mossel Bay VW wins 2 categories at this year’s VW South Africa Grand Prix Awards.

Ok, it’s not the Oscars but this is not La-la Land. It’s real life and the awards presented at the VW South Africa Grand Prix ceremony goes to real people. People who strive to be the best of the best under the VW brand, whether it is best in sales, best in service or best in overall customer centricity in dealer categories A, B and C.

This awards ceremony takes place every year for a dealer network of 106 outlets. It's a night of glitz and glamour that could compare with any red carpet event in Hollywood. The evening under discussion was crammed with local SA music talent and other local celebrities with Bongani Bingwa of Carte Blanche fame as master of ceremonies. Five star dishes for the festive event were prepared and served by winners of the 2012 & 2013 MasterChef South Africa competition.

On the evening VW Mossel Bay’s Jaco Van der Merwe won Best MasterCar Salesman of the year in Category C for the third year running, proving his metal once more as one of the best MasterCar salesmen in the country. As the celebratory mood amongst a proud Mossel Bay VW team progressed into the night, events were suddenly interrupted by another surprise announcement that stirred the crowd: Mossel Bay VW is declared winner of the prestigious Customer Centricity Award for overall customer satisfaction across all categories out of the 106 dealers present that evening.

The CSI index is compiled from client feedback on the quality of service in the sale of new motor vehicles, MasterCars(guaranteed quality used vehicles) and service. Customer Centricity Awards are divided into three categories with the 4th category a composite of them all – and the most sought after prize. It is this that now stands polished and posed at Mossel Bay Volkswagen after the outlet had hovered in second place the previous two years in a row.

“I knew we were going to take it this year,” Mossel Bay Volkswagen owner Gideon Knoetze beams confidently. “It had to come after being so close for the past two years. And we work as a team from workshop to showroom level to give customers the best possible service.”

But what’s the magic ingredient, the automotive X-Factor?

Gideon believes Mossel Bay Volkswagen’s slogan “World class technology – down-to-earth values” holds the key to their success. “Look, everyone knows the company makes fine quality cars. It goes without saying, so in a sense the products sell themselves. But I really believe it’s our helpful, friendly and personal touch with clients that sets us apart from the rest.”

That and the reaction of the clients themselves, who have been lapping up the country-style courtesy and responding accordingly for the past few years. “I wish I could thank everyone of them personally,” Gideon smiles. “They feel like part of the family. After all, we owe this award and everything else you see here to them more than anything else.”
